R. Yaakov Yisroel Kanievsky. Extremely Sharply Worded Letter Regarding a Din Torah. Bnei Brak 1964
Long sharply worded autograph letter by R. Yaakov Yisroel Kanievsky to an individual who had been refusing to go to a Din Torah regarding a financial matter. “Every day that goes by without a Heter not to go to Beis Din, gives rise to a concern of Issur Gezel”. He adds at the bottom that the recipient should come visit him “if it isn’t too difficult”.
R. Yaakov Yisroel Kanievsky (1899–1985), was known as the Steipler Gaon after his hometown Horonsteipl. Orphaned at young age, he learned in the Novardok Yeshiva, where he was renowned for his great diligence. Following his marriage to the sister of the Chazon Ish, he served as Rosh Yeshiva of the Novardok Yeshiva in Pinsk until 1934, when he emigrated to Eretz Yisroel settling in Bnei Brak. World renowned, he shunned publicity and lived in humble surroundings, teaching, writing and devoting himself to Torah and Mitzvos. His magnum opus the multi-volume Kehillas Yaakov on most of the tractates of the Talmud was enthusiastically received and is an important Talmudic work, studied in many Yeshivos.
Written on the reverse side of the letter sent to him regarding the matter.
32 by 20.5 cm. Very fine condition. Some erasures.
