R. Yaakov Yisroel Kanievsky to R. Menachem Porush. Bnei Brak 1964
Autograph letter by R. Yaakov Yisroel Kanievsky to R. Menachem Porush, regarding a donation sent by R. Simcha Elberg.
R. Yaakov Yisroel Kanievsky (1899–1985), was known as the Steipler Gaon after his hometown Horonsteipl. Orphaned at young age, he learned in the Novardok Yeshiva, where he was renowned for his great diligence. Following his marriage to the sister of the Chazon Ish, he served as Rosh Yeshiva of the Novardok Yeshiva in Pinsk until 1934, when he emigrated to Eretz Yisroel settling in Bnei Brak. World renowned, he shunned publicity and lived in humble surroundings, teaching, writing and devoting himself to Torah and Mitzvos. His magnum opus the multi-volume Kehillas Yaakov on most of the tractates of the Talmud was enthusiastically received and is an important Talmudic work, studied in many Yeshivos.
Lot includes the letter by R. Porush, as well as the original envelope addressed by the Steipler.
