Shev Shemaiteta. Lemberg, 1804. First Edition. Fundamental Sefer. Pedigree Copy

Shev Shemaiteta - studies on safek, chazakah, rov v'karov, and more by Rabbi Aryeh Leib HaKohen, author of Ketzot HaChoshen. Lemberg, 1804. First edition.

First edition of this important and common scholarly work later printed in many dozens of editions with many commentaries and notes written on it. This book attests to the astonishing genius of the author of Ketzot HaChoshen - it was written while he was not yet bar mitzvah! As he himself attests in his preface: "I authored this work while still a child, " and from that time leading rashei yeshivot study it, and the halachic rules established in it constitute the basis from which scholars do not stray. It is considered a fundamental sefer in yeshivah halls. With an introduction by Rabbi Zanvl Leib [Rabbi Shmuel Aryeh Tzehlin] that appears at the beginning of this first edition, but has been omitted in most subsequent editions.

Owner's signature on the title page handwritten by "Naftali Hirsch Bleichroth" (also Bleichroda), a disciple of Rabbi Akiva Eiger, and son-in-law of his son Rabbi Avraham Eiger. In a letter sent to him by his teacher, before he married Rabbi Akiva Eiger's granddaughter, he wrote: My pure friend, like the fruit of my womb, the sharp young man ... R' Hirsch .... He was the rabbi of Kórnik (and one of the rabbis of in Wieleń) and passed away in 1839.

Leaves: 6, 30, and 40 bear owner's signatures integrated with the page number: Shmuel.
