An Extremely Rare Jewish Iron Marriage Casket, Nuremberg, 16th Century

Description: Profusely etched and engraved with rampant hares and dogs on a ground of interlaced scrolls an foliate. The front depicting a Jewish wedding scene and engraved with Hebrew inscriptions. The sides depicting a dog chasing a hair amidst clusters of twisted foliate and engraved with Hebrew inscriptions.


Length: 21 cm; width: 17 cm; height: 9 cm


Condition: Missing key.


Notes: This type of casket was a traditional gift from the husband to his new bride
