Frog on Arched Track Tin Mechanical Bank
By the James Fallows Company. Philadelphia, Pa. - Pat.'d Dec. 5, 1871. From the Perelman Museum Collection. From the Haradin Family Collection. At the end of the nineteenth century, James Fallows built a very thriving and significant business as a tin toy maker , not as a bank maker. However, just like the Weeden's Company, Fallows also had a short moment in time when he produced clever mechanical toy banks in tin. The rarest of his creations is the Frog on Arched Track. To operate the bank, you must place the frog inside his den and close the lid. A penny is then inserted in the coin holder at the end of the arched track. Witness what happens when you lift the lid of the den. The frog jumps out, travels over the arched track and grabs the coin in his mouth. When the bank is adjusted perfectly, the frog reverses his course and drops your penny in his den. At this time, there are only four known extant specimens of the Frog on Arched Track and the Perelman example is the best one.
