ERICH HARTMANN
(1922 - 1993) German ace, the top ace of all time, with 352 aerial kills during which he never lost a wing man. Captured and held by the Soviets for ten years. Good association A.L.S. in English, 2pp. 4to., [n.p.], Oct. 10, 1970, to a researcher's inquiries about HERBERT IHLEFELD (1914 - 1995), German World War II ace with 130 kills, awarded the Knights Cross with Swords. In part: '...I have your letter from August 5th asking me about Ihlefeld...I know only: born 1.6.1914...in Spain Civil War...already one of the aces...1st group of Wing 77 which he led from August 1940 until May 1942...At the end of the battle of Britain 25 victories...later 5th fighter pilot with 100 Victories...Total of over 1000 missions and 130 victories...' Hartmann signs in full at the conclusion. Fine condition.
