Beiur on Rashi's commentary on the Torah by Rabbi Yisrael Iserlin, author of the 'Trumat HaDeshen' - [Constantine  1637 Shlomo Franco printing press] Except for the missing title page, a perfect copy - an edition that does not appear in Winograd-Rosenfeld, the National Library have a copy lacks of many pages that were completed in photography. as far as we know this edition has never appeared at auctions!


In the copy before us is a continuous page numbering 259 leaves. In the National Library there are two copies of this edition: in copy 1 the title page in the photograph and pages 3, 206, 208-213 are missing. Page 2 damaged. In the copy of ValMadonna which appears there the title page and pages in 2-9, 32, 209-213 missing and completed in photography.


before us pages 1-259. missing only the title page. missing tears on 258-259 pages with text impact on the ends of the rows in the left column (the tears were completed by pasting paper). Tears in the tops of pages 1-99 on the border of the upper margins with slight damage to some of the titles of the book names. Mild text damage on page 1, and other tears on this page with minor text damage. Old cardboard cover covered with fabric with damage at the top. Leather spine. Cutting red pages. 


on page 137 was pasted onother page, apparently by the printer. The pasted page is blank on the back, and corresponds to the text that continues on page 138. It is possible that this page was pasted by the censor to undo things written on page 136.


The author Rabbi Yisrael Iserlan ben Petahya Ashkenazi (Maharai; 1390-1460), known as the "'Trumat HaDeshen" after his book, one of the greatest Ashkenazi Jews of the fifteenth century He is considered one of the most important Poskim, and his answers and rulings are mentioned thousands of times in the Torah literature that followed. Most of his publicity came by his book "Trumat HaDeshen", in which he wrote answers to 354 questions (=דש"ן), in all subjects of Halacha. In addition to his well-known work, and the commentary on Rashi before us, he also wrote "Glosses for the Sha'arey Dura, " and "36 Gates in Issur VeHeter."
