CHRYSANTHEMUM BOX MELTED AT HIROSHIMA
CHRYSANTHEMUM BOX MELTED AT HIROSHIMA
Scarce and quite symbolic relic recovered from the immediate blast zone at Hiroshima, a 2 x 2 x 1 in. silver[?] box decorated with engraved cranes on the sides and a chrysanthemum on the lid, a symbol of the Japanese royal family. The lid bears a large, melted hole and the resulting heat has sealed the lid to the box. Beneath the hole, the bottom of the box is bubbled and warped showing the effect of the dripping molten metal resulting from the intense heat generated by the 15-kiloton atomic bomb "Little Boy" dropped from the Enola Gay on Aug. 6, 1945. From our long-time Japanese consignor of Hiroshima relics of indisputable reputation. With our COA.
