NETZIV. HISTORIC LETTER. R. NAFTALI TZVI YEHUDA BERLIN. Extremely large (44 by 28! Cm) historic memorandum upon the rebuilding of the Volozhin Yeshiva following a fire. Volozhin 1886.
Autograph memorandum by the Netziv of Volozhin to the HaTzfirah newspaper concerning the rebuilding of the Volozhin Yeshiva after a fire devastated the Yeshiva and its surroundings.
He begins by writing that despite the great fire that devastated the “Beis Ha’Yeshiva Ha’Kedosha Mikdash HaTorah of more than 80 years”, many have come forward from all throughout the world to assist in the rebuilding. He continues that since it is a Mitzva to create a record and to publicize the names of the donors to the Yeshiva, as mentioned in the Magen Avrohom in the name of the RaShBA, he is publicizing the names of individuals and communities who donated funds, as well as Seforim. He continues that since he has been away from his home for a few days, the names and donations are being written from memory and that he will publicize an updated list with more accurate and additional information later. Notable names mentioned include Chief Rabbi Nathan Adler of London, R. Yisroel Brodsky, R. Dovid Luria and many others.

From his marriage, a son, from his first marriage, R. Chaim Berlin, became the Rav of Moscow and a daughter married R. Refoel Shapiro later Rosh Yeshiva in Volozhin. R.
