Jewish postcards 1897-1917 - one of the most important books published in the 20th century In the field of Jewish postcards

Images et Traditions juives - By renowned collector GERARD SILVAN. Sylvan's important essay that provides a comprehensive picture of the Jewish postcards for their variety of subjects, published in 1897-1917. Paris, 1997. A copy with a different design of the cover.

The book is accompanied by hundreds of photographs of important and rare Jewish postcards, which were published around the world in the years 1897-1917 from the author's collection. With accompanying descriptions and important background explanations. The book provides an important overview of the various fields in which the Jewish postcards dealt (the chapters of the book are divided according to the countries of origin): and is accompanied by dozens of photographs of: synagogue postcards, Jewish soldiers in World War I, antisemitic postcards, New Year postcards, Jewish customs European Jewry, North Africa and the United States, works by Jewish artists, the Dreyfus affair - postcards issued in the midst of the affair, Zionist congresses, postcards of Palestine and the Jewish Yishuv, Jewish Gruss aus souvenir postcards, and more.

For this edition a different design of the cover was chosen. While all editions feature illustration from an antisemitic postcard (in the form of a question mark and a Jew), the cover before us was designed in the form of the official postcard of the First Zionist Congress (the body of the book in the various editions is exactly the same).
