Labor Service '- a rare certificate issued by the Provisional Government - 7/12/1948

A rare certificate issued by the Provisional Government in 1948 for civilians who did not serve in the IDF or the police, and were required to perform their service as part of the 'Labor Service' (equivalent to 'National Service' today). Very rare.

"By virtue of the authority given to the Minister of Labor by the Provisional Government ... and by virtue of the Emergency Regulations 1948, every man aged 16 to 55, and any woman aged 16 to 50, who are not enlisted in the Israel Defense Forces or the Israel Police, must enlist For vital work in the service of the people. Anyone who violates the recruitment order, published by the Minister of Labor, will be punished in accordance with section 13 (b) of the Emergency Regulations, 1948". It is also written on the certificate: 'The holder of this certificate functioned for the labor service legally'.

On the title page of the certificate is a special symbol specially designed for 'work service' in the form of a hoe, wheel and oats. The certificate before us belonged to Cohen Aliza, born in 1925, from the "Agudat Israel Pioneers' House" and the details were filled in on December 7, 1948. The date 12/12/1948 also appears in the table "Certificates of fulfillment of the service obligation".

[6] p. 8x13 cm. Very good condition.
