Early letter by Golda Meir. New York, 1930s

An early letter signed by Golda Meir, written in her role as secretary of the PIONEER WOMEN organization, in which Golda details the development of Zionist activity on the issues of youth ["Children up to the age of 18 are organized only in Poalei Zion Youth"], Guta"l Group" ["Within the committee there will also be our friend Rachel Yanait ... we must not talk to them this year about any new work"], books that should have been sent from Eretz Israel to the women of the organization, employment of Jewish women in America ['The situation here is really very difficult A large number of our friends ... have to go to work in workshops, others are looking for work and can't find, there is a feeling of panic on the street]. writing articles about the aliyahs, HaShomer, and the occupation of the work, and more.

The PIONEER WOMEN organization was founded in New York in 1925, and since its inception has received enthusiastic support from Golda Meir. From 1932 to 1934, she was in the United States in Zionist activity and collecting donations as the organization's secretary. It was formed from a group of idealistic women who were part of the Eastern European immigrant generation. The organization provided welfare services for women, young people and children, and immigrants to Israel, and encouraged Jewish women in the United States to take a more active part in the life of the Jewish community and in American civic affairs. After World War II, the organization has a large network of projects that dealt with culture and welfare in Israel.
