The "Organization of Survivors of Extermination Camps of Greece in Israel" was founded in March 1953, ten years after the extermination of the Jews of Greece and the destruction of their communities and 8 years after the liberation from the German extermination camps, as an Ottoman association. The organization's offices were initially located in the store of one of the members on Kishon Street in Tel Aviv. In the first years of its establishment, the organization numbered over 1,200 members, all survivors of the Nazi extermination and concentration camps. One of the organization's most notable achievements over the years has been the recognition among many that Jews of Greek descent were exterminated in the Holocaust and the memory of Greek Jews who were exterminated and the memory of their 33 communities destroyed by Nazi Germans and their aides in the Holocaust. The members of the organization hold a Kabalat Shabbat in the style of Greek Jews every month (before Rosh Chodesh) in the Thessaloniki synagogue in the Shapira neighborhood of Tel Aviv.
