'Warsaw liberated' - special issue of "Mishmar" Newspaper

"Warsaw liberated ... Brigades of the Red Army and the Polish Army occupied Warsaw. The capital of the Polish Republic."

A special issue of "Mishmar" dated Wednesday 1/17/1945 reporting on the final liberation of Warsaw "The announcement was made three times in a row. It was followed by the singing of the Polish national anthem. At the last minute Moscow confirms the liberation of Warsaw by Stalin's special order."

On the left are photographs of buildings in the city of Warsaw, including the Great Synagogue on Tlomacka Street. It is interesting to note that the newspaper chose to put a picture of the synagogue When was on built even though it was actually destroyed about two years earlier in May 1943 during the suppression of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising.
