"Times have changed" - a big anti-Semitic cartoon. Vienna 1933

Newspaper issue DIE MUSKETE - 'The Magazine of Art and Humor' Vienna 1933.

The pages of the issue contain a large anti-Semitic cartoon in which a stereotypical Jewish figure (the "wandering Jew") is led in a carriage and looks for a place to stay. Next to it stands a local landlord, and under the heading "Ander zeiten" ['times changed'] The antisemitic caption in German: "bitte, ich habe gaste could sie mir nicht fur diesen abend mein schlob leihen" - "I have guests (the place is full occupancy), I can not Lend you the key to the evening" - Jews are not welcome..

The Weekly Die MUSKETE began its journey in Vienna in 1905 and was published continuously until 1941. Adolf Mustak was the editor and chief editor. In the first issue, he described the purpose of the new nationalist issue: "We want to be Austrians. Local illustrators, local writers. We will also remain Austrians in our attitude towards the military ...". Indeed, throughout the years of the meticulously crafted issue, an anti-Semitic line was drawn which harnessed Austrian talents and emphasized the needs of Austria itself and its population only.  Each cover page and last page printed in color.
