1916 WATERCOLOR PAINTING, BRITISH ARTILLERY IN ACTION
1916 WATERCOLOR PAINTING, BRITISH ARTILLERY IN ACTION
Excellent original ink and watercolor battle scene executed and signed by Canadian artist Lt. JOHN MCQUEEN MOYES (1888-1948) while serving with the 13th Canadian Battalion, The Royal Highlanders of Canada, in 1916. The 8 x 6 in. painting depicts a three-man British gun crew firing a heavy artillery piece at the edge of a forest. The artist captions his work: "British gun firing on the German front line in the Ypres Salient June 1916". Fine condition. Moyes served for the length of the war and received two wounds in his left leg. One of his works is displayed in the Canadian War Museum.
