EDWARD V. RICKENBACKER
(1890 - 1973) American aviator and World War l ace credited with 26 "kills", later president of Eastern Air Lines. His personal indexed copy of "Udet: A Man's Life" by Hans Herlin (London: MacDonald and Company), 1960. 256pp. 8vo. Rickenbacker adds the inscription on the front flyleaf: "This is the property of Capt. Eddie Rickenbacker 1918/1967"". According to his son William F. Rickenbacker, whose letter of provenance also accompanies this lot, ""he enjoyed counting the years between 1918 and the current date...Seems he bought this book for his own enjoyment...Udet was...a dear friend of EVR after they met in Berlin on EVR's honeymoon in 1922..." Very good, with dust jacket.
