Rare! Sefer Yavin Shmu’ah with many handwritten glosses and chiddushim. First edition from the author’s lifetime, Venice 1639. Handsome copy in rare condition.

Sefer Yavin Shmu’ah by Rabbi Shlomo Elgazi, a work on the Sefer Halichot Olam by Rabbi Yeshuah ben Yosef HaLevi from Tlemcen and printed around the text. Also introduced in this edition is the Klalei HaGemara by Rabbi Yosef Karo.

First edition from the author’s lifetime. The National Library categorizes it as rare. 129, [16] leaves in the original, this copy is missing the 6th leaf. The title page and a number of additional pages have been professionally repaired. The last leaf is repaired and part of the page is made from a true facsimile. Stains, moth damage filled in, new inscribed binding, overall rare condition for a book so old.

The copy is decorated in the margins by handwritten notes and chiddushim, some long and significant, and many marei mekomot showing the Torah knowledge of their author. One note is in a Mizrahi handwriting but is cut off. Some of the notes are cut off.

Leaf 40 has a name at the top: “Meshulam Hillel…”. The second leaf has a stamp: “Shlomo Zalman…”. Stamp of the Beit Midrash Ashkenazim in London. A blurred note on the title page.
