LA VARA - Volume of Sheets in Ladino - 1935

LA VARA - A rare Ladino weekly - a volume with 67 issues, from April 19, 1935 to July 31, 1936. The weekly was edited in New York by immigrants from Turkey and Spain, and deals with European Jewry, and Jewish culture in Turkey, Spain, And in the Ladino countries, as well as in the jewish spanish community in New York itself. Extremely rare.

On the title page of each issue, above the headline with the name of the weekly LA VARA, there is a subheading of the main topic that issue deals with. For example, in the issue of April 26, 1935, the headline reads: "לה פרינסה אנטיסימיטיקה אין גריג'ה" - "La Princesa Antisemitica in Grieja", another issue dealing with the intensification of Hitler's power bears the headline: "לה אבילה היטליר אין איל ראאישטאג", and so on in the other issues.

Similarly, in the issues are extensive articles surrounding the Jewish holidays, and articles about the great rabbis in the countries of the East, for example in the first issue which was published on April 19, 1935 and deals entirely with Passover, the "Haggadah of Time" appears - a contemporary Haggadah that deals entirely with anti-Semitism German and the persecution of Jews in Nazi Germany and throughout Europe, in the format of the Passover Haggadah, in keeping with the language of the traditional Haggadah. Another issue dealing with rabbinical figures under the headline: "לה איסטורייה ישראליתה אין טורקיאה" - The history of Israel in Turkey, accompanied by rare rabbinical photographs, and more.
