Yad Yosef, Droshos, Venice 1616 – First Edition

Yad Yosef, droshos on the Torah, Yomim Tovim, chuppah, and bris milah, by Rabbi Yosef Tzorfati of Adrianople, Venice 1616 – First Edition.

The title page bears inscriptions in Italian script from the Ottolenghi family.

The author, the renowned Gaon Rabbi Yosef Tzorfati (who passed away around 1640), was one of the prominent gedolim of Turkey and the chief rabbi of the city of Adrianople. He also served as a member of the Beis Din of Rabbi Yedidya Abulafia. Rabbi Yosef Tzarfati gained worldwide acclaim for his famous sefer Yad Yosef on drush, which was beloved by the gedolim of both Sefarad and Ashkenaz and is frequently cited in their seforim. The renowned Gaon Rabbi Yosef Teomim, author of Pri Megodim, often quotes his seforim. Later in life, Rabbi Yosef Tzorfati emigrated to Eretz Yisroel. Among his other works in manuscript form are Rosh Yosef (klolim), Peleg Elokim (chiddushei sugyos), and Mateh Yosef (droshos). (See Toldos Chachmei Yerushalayim, Vol. 2, p. 78).
