Machzor According to the Custom of Bnei Romah. Venice, 1587. Original Copy! Exceptionally Rare

Machzor per the custom of the Roma community, with the addition of all the parashiyot and haftarot, with elucidations of foreign words and precious comments. Venice, di Gara Press, 1587. Part I. Especially rare.

Includes the weekdays and Shabbat prayers, Chanukah and Purim, the fasts and the four parashiyot, Pesach, Shavuot and Tisha B'Av. With the Passover Haggadah. The haggadah contains pictures of matzah and marror.

Interesting proofreader's introduction on the back of the title page. In order to save himself from the work of vowelization in the parashah of the Nesi'im for Chanukah, only the first and last verses are vowelized, and they relied on the vowelization of the first Nasi.

This is the original title page. There are copies with similar title pages actually printed in Venice in 1776. Refer to Haberman, HaMadpis di Gara 90, and Mif'al HaBibliographiah.

This important machzor was later printed in Venice, in 1606 and in Mantua in 1776.

There are copies known to contain leaves from various editions. In all the copies, there are leaves bound from other editions. However, several signs demonstrate that this copy is a complete copy of the first edition printed in 1587 (and certainly not a Mantua edition).

Exceptionally rare siddur. To the best of our knowledge, it has never been offered at auction.

Ginzei Yisrael - Osef Mehlman 316, Incomplete copy. Haberman, HaMadpis di Gara 90, Mavo LaMachzor Bnei Roma, 11, 12, 15.

312 leaf. 14 cm.

Fine condition. Aging stains. Some of the titles are cropped, along with some of the word explanations in the margins of the leaves. New semi-leather binding.
