Historic Item: The Tur that Belonged to Physician and Posek Rabbi Yisrael Shlomo Zalman Alexandrovsky. Glosses

Tur Yoreh Deah, with the Nosei Keilim. Kapust, 1834. Printed at the Slavuta Press. This edition includes just the Yoreh Deah and Even HaEzer sections. The renowned physician and gaon's owners' signatures appear on the title page, "Yisrael Shlomo Zalman Aharon HaKohen Alexandrovsky, ritual slaughterer in the city of Shereshov." Dozens of handwritten glosses along the book's leaves, some lengthy.

The renowned physician and gaon Rabbi Yisrael Zalman Alexandrovsky was one of the most proficient of his generation in the laws of ritual slaughter. Rabbinic leaders of the generation such as Rabbi Mordechai of Oshmina, the gaon Rabbi Chaim Soloveitchik of Brisk and the Rebbe Rabbi Meir Yechiel of Ostrovtza rushed their uncertainties in this field to him, and he wrote his halachic responsa to them. These became well-known, and the halachah was established accordingly. This is the volume of Tur Yoreh De'ah - Hilchot Shechitah from which the renowned physician ruled his famous halachic responsa for the rabbinic leaders of the generation.
