Zivchei Tzedek. Al-Sa'ilah [South Yemen], C. 1850
Impressive and complete manuscript by an expert scribe on the laws of ritual slaughter and treifah, called "Zivchei Tzedek."
The book is divided into sixty simanim. Each siman has a central title. Each siman opens with text in large block letters followed by beautiful clear Rash"i script, halachic analyses, opinions of the halachic adjudicators and practical halachah per the Yemenite tradition.
Complete colophon at the end: "Written per the desire of the sage ... the rabbi, Rabbeinu Hassan son of Moreinu v'Rabbeinu Saalam ... and the writer, lightest of the light, dust at the feet of sages ... written in the city of Al-Sa'ilah ... by the scribe ... the youth Avraham son of ... Yosef son of ... Me'oded known as Elgaridi ..."

The Al-Sa'ilah community was in South Yemen in the Sana'a district. Jews of this community were known for hosting the poor and for their positive characters. They also excelled in preserving traditional Yemenite melodies transmitted by excellent cantors.
