Manuscript. Seter HaPizmonim. Modena, [1818]. Hebrew and Ladino
Ledger of handwritten liturgical hymns, Hebrew and Ladino, written in honor of Mazal Sarudyo wife of Efraim Nachmani ben Avtalyon of Modena in 1818.
The decorated title page notes: 'Seter HaPizmonim, that I wrote…me the youth Avtalyon bar Avraham Shlomo Tilyav.. for the woman of valor….Mrs. Mazal Serudya the crown of her husband… Efraim Nachmani… here in Modena...
32 leaves. 22 cm. Nice, scribal writing. Thick quality paper, decorated title page, colored, paper binding.
Includes 25 hymns, about half of which are not included in Davidson's "Thesaurus of Mediaeval Hebrew Poetry". Interestingly, most of the hymns that were written here for a woman deal with redemption and revenge against gentile nations, some are known from Sabbatean literature.
Included with a list of the hymns and bibliographic information.
