Photograph of the graduating class of a tank course course for yeshiva students at the Armored Corps School (1978), many of whose graduates fell, 3 went missing in the Battle of Sultan Yacoub. Dimensions: 24x18 cm. *The Battle of Sultan Yacoub took place on June 11, 1982 during the First Lebanon War. The IDF fought the Syrian Army over a junction south to the Village of Sultan Yacoub in the Lebanese Beqaa Valley.
The battle ended with the withdrawal of IDF forces from the junction, after an IDF force that broke through to the front discovered that it was surrounded in a large Syrian compound and was barely rescued by heavy artillery. The battle was considered one of the IDF's greatest failures in the war. It is remembered mainly for the many dead, wounded, and POWs of the IDF, and the three reserve soldiers who are still missing to this day: Zacharia Baumel, Yehuda Katz and Zvi Feldman.
