ביזמת מאיר דיזנגוף והאדריכל יוסף ברלין, פנו השניים אל יוסף מוגרבי, יהודי עשיר שעלה מצדשמ בשנת 1925 , כדי להקים בית אופרה חדש בתל אביב,
ביום 13 לפברואר 1903 נחנך קולנוע מוגרבי שבקומת הקרקע שלו הוקם אולם תיאטרון בו השתמשו והופיעו בין היתר תיאטרון המטאטא, הקומקום, האוהל, הבימה והקאמרי.
שלוש הצגות בכורה - שלוש מתנות מאת י.ל. פרץ, בהשתתפות כ- 20 שחקנים.
