Silver tray with a Havdalah set on it - cup, candle-holder and spice-box, all made of pure silver, signed and dated by Wolpert, from 1981.
Hand-sawed silver with which Wolpert created the Havdalah blessings using his unique typography.
Wolpert was born in Germany in 1990. In 1935 began teaching at the New Bezalel in Jerusalem, where he headed the Department of Metal together with the important jeweler David Heinz Gumbel. In his teaching, Wolpert emphasized Hebrew typography and modernly designed ritual objects.
Yehuda Ludwig Wolpert alongside his friend David Gumbel transformed the traditional design of Judaica items.
With their students at Bezalel, they made Judaica items, jewelry and silverware inspired by the Bauhaus school of design - clean of elaborate decorations, original, functional and innovative, with modernist, flowing curves.
