Megillah Case Made of Silver with Gemstones. Israel, 1960.
Megillat Ester on parchment in a silver case, with gemstones. Israeli silversmithing inspired by the Megillah cases from Germany in the 19th century.
The design of the case resembles that of European architecture, shaped like a tower and a turret. The handle for rolling the Megillah and that for opening it are inlaid with large gemstones. The body of the case is hexagonal. Dense carving forms the look of bricks, making the case look like a tower together with its upper turret-shaped part, which is also inlaid with gemstones. On top there is a large silver flag.
Placed inside the case is a Megillat Ester written on parchment. This is the Hamelech Megillah, each of its columns beginning with the word 'Hamelech' and above it a calligraphic decoration of a crown.
