The Kabbalist Rabbi Shmuel Vital (1598-1677), one of the renowned rabbis of Damascus, was the son of the Kabbalist Rabbi Chaim Vital.
This siddur was published at the initiative of the Gaon Rabbi Chaim Eliezer Shapira of Munkatch, author of Minchat Eliezer.
The author, Rabbi Shmuel Vital, writes in his preface that the order and version of the prayers is “fine flour, sifted from the kavanot of the Ariza"l… and I have complete confidence in Divine Lovingkindness that by means of this siddur the world will be filled with knowledge of Hashem…”
The approbation by the holy rabbi of Kosson, author of Bnei Sheleishim, states, “The body and the soul can be safeguarded from all sorrow and damage if this siddur is in his house.” Indeed, it was an accepted practice among Chassidim that keeping this siddur in the home was a talisman for safety.
