Handwritten Homily on Parashat "Shlach Lecha" – Hovevei Zion and the Zionist Movement – Belarus, 1898
"Divrei Menachem", handwritten homily on Parashat "Shlach Lecha". Unidentified writer, "Menachem son of Aharon", who signs at the end of the homily: "These are the words of Menachem son of Aaron, lover and pursuer of peace… Parashat Shlach, the year 5658, Vyetka, Gomel region, Mogilev on the Dnieper". Belarus, 1898. Yiddish, with a few words in Hebrew.
A homily on Parashat "Shlach Lecha" that tells the story of the twelve spies sent to assess the promised land. The homily deals with Hovevei Zion and the Zionist Movement in general, refers to its leaders – "the honest, righteous people Dr. Herzl and Max Nordau, Dr. Mandelstam and Dr. Baruch" – and connects the biblical story to current events, the state of the Jewish people and Palestine.
