Example of a Jewish woman's censored envelope mailed to the U.S., the envelope bearing the "Opened" Wehrmacht censor's tape and stamp on verso, which is also signed by the woman who has added "Sara" as her middle name to identify herself as a Jew, as required by law. The envelope is cancelled Nov. 17, 1941 - only three weeks before Germany would declare war on the U.S. and mail between the countries would be banned. One could easily speculate that the writer was urgently seeking to escape Germany with the aid of her American correspondents...
