Plaque of the New Synagogue in Tarnow, Destroyed 1939
This plaque was probably a souvenir someone could buy while visiting the New Synagogue in Tarnow, Poland in commemoration of the Jewish community. Probably dates from the early 1930's. The plaque was found in the attic of an old Jewish home and is made from brass and nicely framed. A beautiful souvenir from the past. New Synagogue (Polish: Nowa Synagoga, Nowa Synagoga w Tarnowie) was the largest synagogue in Tarnow, Poland. It was built from 1865 to 1908, with the long period of construction due to lack of funds. The synagogue was set on fire by the Germans in November 1939. The fire lasted three days but the building did not collapse; it was blown up instead. Very nice patina , made probably of brass.
