BURKE EDMUND: (1729-1797) Irish Statesman, Orator, Political Theorist and Philosopher. A.L.S., Edm. Burke, one page, 4to, n.p., 24th April 1796, to [Stephen] Adey. Burke writes, in full, 'I beg you to pay to a Mr. Chalkley, who will call on you for it, eighty pounds. I owe him about as much more, but I do not choose to pay it to him until he has thought proper to secure me against all other demands for the particulars of the work he has done for me. Pray send the Bankers Book Mrs. Burke desired you to send, & your account as soon as convenient you can.' One very slight, minor ink smudge to one word of text, two very small pinholes to the upper left corner and some extremely minor age wear, VG £400-600 Stephen Adey was Burke's banker and a partner in the banking house of Boldero and Adey.
