Tehillim which Belonged to Rabbi David of Sochochov, with his Handwritten Glosses
Tehillim with Rash"i and theֲ Metzudot commentaries. Warsaw, 1890. Copy which belonged to the Admo"r Rabbi David Borenstein of Sochochov, author of Chasdei David, who also wrote comments in it.
Bound with: Mishlei, with Rash"i andֲ theֲ Metzudot commentaries. Warsaw, 1890. Also with his signature.
The title page of Psalms bears the Admo"r Rabbi David's stamps, from the lifetime of his father, the author of Shem MiShmuel. The title page of Mishlei bears his signature (in pencil). There are several glosses amongst the leaves of Tehillim, which have been identified as his handwriting. For example, in Psalm 90, on the verses "Satisfy us in the morning with your kindness ... bring us joy according to the days of our affliction "כי כי כשבא החסד אנו יודעין שיש לשמוח אף בימי הגלות וזהו שמחנו כימות וגו', פעלך בזמן ההסתר, הדרך בזמן הישועה". the Admo"r notes in his hand: "When lovingkindness comes, we know to rejoice even in days of exile, and we rejoiced as in the days, etc., Your activity in times of hiding, is the way at the time of salvation."
The Admo"r Rabbi David Borinstein [1876-1943] was a son of the Admo"r, the author of Shem MiShmuel, grandson of the author of Avnei Nezer and great-grandson of the Saraf of Kotzk. He served as rabbi of Vishogrod in Poland, where he established a well-known yeshivah. He served as Admo"r of Sochochov starting in 1926, becoming one of the prominent Admo"rs in Poland. He was a source of much encouragement to the residents of the Warsaw ghetto during the Holocaust, but he passed away there from a stroke. Most of his writings on Talmudic, halachic and aggadic topics were lost. Parts of his Torah appear in Chasdei David and in Naot Desh'e.
120 leaves, 51 leaves. 18 cm. Used-fine condition. Placed in a magnificent leather box.
