R. Shayl'a Kerestirer! Historic discovery. Tola’as Yaakov Rishon L’Zion
Lot of two seforim bound together with the signature of R. Yeshaya Steiner of Kerestir.
• Tola’as Yaakov. Lemberg 1858. Kabbalistic commentary to Tefilah, by R. Meir Ibn Gabbai (1480-1540’s), a Spanish exile. Tola’as Yaakov is a classic sefer Kabolah, frequently quoted in the SHLoH Ha’Kodosh and the Sifrei CHIDA.
• Rishon L’TZion. Przemsyl 1871. Kabbalistic commentary on Na”CH by R. Chaim ben Attar, the Ohr HaChaim Ha’Kodosh.
R. Yeshaya Steiner of Kerestir (1852-1922), known as Reb Shaya’la, was a talmid of R. Tzvi Hirsh of Liska, (Ach Pri Tevua). He was orphaned from his father at the age of three and was raised in the home of R. Tzvi Hirsh of Liska. R. Shaya’la eventually became the Meshamash of R. Tzvi Hirsch of Liska and even when he was a world famous Rebbe, with thousands of Chasidim, he still referred to himself as “Meshamash B’Kodesh of the Liska Tzaddik”. In addition, he was a close Chossid of the Divrei Chaim of Sanz and R. Mordechai of Nadvorna.
Reb Shaya’la was world famous for his unparalleled Tzedokah and Chesed and he personally engaged in feeding the crowds, who would throng to Kerestir to bask in the light of this great Tzaddik. He was also a great “Poel Yeshuos” and there are countless stories related “of open miracles”. To this day, his portrait hangs in many homes, and tens of thousands flock to his Kever in Kerestir, particularly on his Yahrzeit.
