Turei Zahov. T'AZ First edition. Choshen Mishpat Hamburg 1692.
Commentary on Shulchan Aruch Choshen Mishpat, by R. Dovid HaLevi, known as the Ta”Z, after his classic work, Turei Zahav. The commentary of the Ta”Z is one of the most popular Achronim and greatly influenced practical halachic rulings for the succeeding generations.
R. Dovid ben Shmuel HaLevi (1586–1667), was born in Vladimir Ukraine, where he studied under his eldest brother, R. Yitzchok HaLevi and was known as a tremendous Talmid Chochom. He married the daughter of R. Yoel Sirkes, the Ba”CH. After his marriage he remained for some time in the house of his father-in-law and studied in his Yeshivah. He then established his own Beis Medrash in Cracow. In 1618, R. Dovid was appointed Rav of Putalicze, Galicia. He later served as Rav in Posen and Ostrog. During the Khmelnytsky pogroms (1648–49), he escaped to the fortress of Ulick. He then went to Lublin, and finally, like many Polish scholars, wandered westward. He was consulted on Halachic queries in all the Moravian communities he passed. When calm was partially restored in Poland he returned there, and in 1654, he was appointed Rav of Lemberg.
With unidentified rabbinical glosses.
Vinograd Hamburg 36. 98 pages. 20 cm. Fine condition. Some wear and worming, at times slightly effecting text. Antique binding.
