Marriage Certificate from the First Marriage of Rishon LeTziyon, Rabbi Mordechai Eliyahu. Jerusalem, 1954
Rabbi Mordechai Eliyahu [1929-2010] was born in the Old City of Jerusalem to his father, kabbalist Rabbi Salman Eliyahu, who immigrated from Baghdad by instruction of his rabbi, author of Ben Ish Chai. He married Rebbetzin Tzivyah, daughter of Rabbi Nissim David Azran, rosh yeshivah of Beit Shmuel. He was appointed a dayan while still a youth, and was the youngest dayan in Israel. He simultaneously dealt in kabbalah. He was chosen to bring the Chid"a's coffin to Jerusalem. He was selected in 1983 as Rishon LeTziyon and chief rabbi of Israel. In his later years, his home was a pilgrimage site and rabbis turned to him for counsel, guidance and blessing.
