Dollar Given on Hoshana Rabbah by the Admo"r Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson of Lubavitch. Rare
Banknote with a face value of one dollar, given by the Rebbe's hands on Hoshana Rabbah 1988. Extremely rare.
Written on the back of the banknote referring to its receipt on Hoshanah Rabbah: "בס"ד, כ"א תשרי תשמ"ט 2 באוקטובר 1988 הושענא רבה." That year, Hoshana Rabbah fell on a Sunday, and the Rebbe distributed dollars to the general public that day, just as on other Sundays.
Hoshana Rabbah is one of the holiest days of the year, especially in kabbalistic and Chassidic doctrine. Kabbalah refers to this day as "The day of sealing" ["יום החותם"], and Chassidim bless each other "Pitka Tava" ['פתקא טבא']. The Rebbe would distribute lekach (cake) on Hoshana Rabbah to whomever did not receive it on the eve of Yom Kippur. This indicates that whoever was not saved on Yom Kippur has another time he can be saved - on Hoshana Rabbah.
Fine condition, fold marks.
