The Hebrew University of Jerusalem was the first to be established in Palestine. The official opening ceremony was held on April 1, 1925, in the amphitheater on Mount Scopus, marking the 40th anniversary of the Hebrew University. A special medal was awarded to the university staff and to high-ranking guests.
