Chochmat Shlomo by Rabbi Shlomo Luria [Maharshal] – Signatures of Rabbi Yehuda “HaDos” Toledano and Scholars of Morocco
Sefer Chochmat Shlomo, Glosses by Rabbi Shlomo Luria [Maharshal] on the Shas, [Amsterdam, 1691].
Last leaf contains many signatures by scholars of Morocco: “Rabbi Meir Toledano”; Rabbi “Yehuda Toledano” who also signs “HaDos Toledano”; Rabbi “Eliyahu ben Shushan” and Rabbi “Yitzchak Amar”.
The signed rabbis are apparently scholars of Meknes, Morocco: Rabbi Meir Toledano, son-in-law of Rabbi Moshe Toledano author of Melechet HaKodesh and his son Rabbi Yehuda Toledano known as Rabbi HaDos [born in 1780, composed dozens of books. Known for his commentary on the Hoshanot. Great Torah scholar of Meknes. Passed away between 1840-1853. [See attached material].
In that same city there was an additional scholar named Rabbi Yehuda HaDos son of Rabbi Chaviv Toledano, disciple of Rabbi Yekutiel Berdugo, who studied together with Rabbi Yitzchak Amar [passed away in 1833 at age 25, see attached material]. However, it is more reasonable that signature is of Rabbi Yehuda son of abovementioned Rabbi Meir Toledano. See attached material.
2-136 leaves (incomplete copy, originally: [2] 136 leaves).18.5 cm. Fair condition, stains and wear damage. Slight moth damage. Elegant ancient leather binding, slightly damaged.
