Manuscript document containing an agreement and contract between an emissary to the United States and the directors of Yeshivat Etz Chaim and Bikur Cholim Hospital. The document is signed by R. Abba Yaakov Senderovitz, R. Moshe Eliezer Dan Ralbag and R. Zalman Chaim Rivlin. Jerusalem, 1891.
Detailed contract with R. Moshe Bendet Levin detailing his terms of service as an emissary in New York for at least three years.
The signatories are: R. Abba Yaakov Senderovitz, "formerly rabbi in Przerosl", member of the Jerusalem Beit Din and director of Yeshivat Etz Chaim and Bikur Cholim hospital (died 1905); R. Moshe Eliezer Dan Ralbag (1832-1895), nephew and disciple of Maharil Diskin, Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshivat Etz Chaim, and renowned as a scholar and holy man (see: Damesek Ekiezer, Lakewood, 2010); R. Zalman Chaim Rivlin (ca. 1835-1902), founder and director of Yeshivat Etz Chaim director of the Vaad Hakelali (General Fund) for many years.
The emissary R. Moshe Bendet Levin, former estate administrator of Starina, near Gorodishche (Minsk district), moved to Jerusalem sometime after 1885. He served as emissary of Yeshivat Etz Chaim and Bikur Cholim Hospital in New York for ten years. His only son, Alter Yitzchak Levin (1883-1934), was a poet and author who published under the pen name Assaf Halevi of Jerusalem (see: Tidhar, Encyclopedia of the Founders and Builders of Israel, II, p. 920.)
