Collection of checks from Bank Klinger in Safed that were sent to rabbis in Eretz Israel and the Diaspora, with signatures of the recipients. December, 1946.
All the checks are signed by Eliyahu Klinger, with signatures of the recipients (on the backs), including: * R. Aryeh Mordechai Rabinowitz (1885-1955), first rabbi of Bnei Brak, and dayan in Jerusalem. He was a descendant of the Rebbes of Parisov (descendents of the "Yehudi Hakadosh" of Pshischa), and author of "Keter Hayehudi", "Zechuta D'Avraham", and "Karnei Re'em". * R. Avraham Chaim Na'eh (1890-1954), rabbi of Chabad, author of "Ketzot HaShulchan", "Kuntres HaSHiurim" and others. He was most renowned for his opinions regarding Halachic measurements. * R. David Mintzberg of Jerusalem (died 1974). He was a primary disciple of R. Yehuda Ashlag, and director of Mosdot Chayei Olam. * R. (Shlomo) Zalman Brizel of Jerusalem (1896-1996), a Karliner chassid known for his piety. * R. Moshe Hager (1926 - 1999), Rosh Yeshivat Yachel Yisrael of the Seret-Vizhnitz Chassidut in Haifa. He was the author of Sefer Birkat Moshe, son of the Rebbe the "Mekor Baruch", and brother of Rebbe Eliezer Hager.
Bank Klinger was established in Safed in 1904 under the name Bank Barzel et Bershad, until it was acquired by R. Eliyahu Klinger in 1910. R. Klinger was the leader of Agudat Yisrael in Safed, and was known as a philanthropist who both loaned money and supported many individuals and institutions in Safed.
