Letter signed by the Brisker Rav, R. "Yitzchak Ze'ev HaLevi Soloveitchik". Jerusalem, 1954.
Confirmation of study for "the student at our holy yeshiva, the Brisk Yeshiva", a previous student at the Slobodka Yeshiva in Bnei Brak who left to study at the Brisk Yeshiva. The entire letter is handwritten by his eldest son R. Yosef Dov HaLevi [who founded and managed the yeshiva in Jerusalem], and is signed by his father, R. Yitzchak Ze'ev Soloveitchik.
Rabbi Yitzchak Ze'ev Soloveitchik (1886-1959), son of R. Chaim HaLevi Soloveitchik of Brisk and grandson of the Beit HaLevi, from a young age was acclaimed as one of the greatest Torah scholars of the generation. In 1920 [at the age of 32], he succeeded his forefathers as rabbi of Brisk, and directed the Jewish interests of his city and of the entire region. He and some of his children survived the Holocaust and immigrated to Jerusalem, rebuilding the Brisk yeshiva. The Torah world in Eretz Israel and abroad acknowledged his authority. His novellae were published in Chiddushei Maran Ryz [R' Yitzchak Ze'ev] HaLevi on the Rambam and on the Torah, and in Chiddushei HaGryz. Until our times, his Torah teachings constitute a basis for profound Torah study in yeshivas, and for Torah outlook and leadership of Charedi Jews in our generation.
