Collection of Combat Leaflets and Leaves from the War of Independence / Letters by a Palmach Fighter in the Battles of the Negev – 1948
Approx. 40 letters by a Palmach fighter who took part in the battles of the Negev, and approx. 40 "combat leaflets" and leaves issued by IDF commands during the War of Independence (most of them from the south). Negba, Kibbutz Dorot, Be'er Sheva, Givat Brener and elsewhere, 1948.
• Approx. 40 handwritten letters, which were sent by a Palmach fighter named Shmuel (presumably of the 7th battalion) to his family members during the months of January-December 1948. The letters contain descriptions of Kibbutz Negba during the war, the battles to conquer the Negev, the shooting down of an Egyptian airplane, a meeting with the soldiers of Danny Mas (who commanded the Convoy of 35), the difficult conditions and more. Several letters are addressed to Shmuel's brother, Michael (who is requested not to show them to their parents) and contain detailed descriptions of the battles, the wounded and the fallen soldiers, the experience of bereavement and more.
• Approx. 40 "combat leaflets" and leaves issued by IDF commands, including: four leaves of "Alon Sadeh" (Field Leaflet) of the 7th battalion of the Palmach (handwritten and mimeographed); fourteen leaves of "Yoman Hama'aracha" (Campaign Log) of the Southern headquarters; an Order of the Day before the Chorev Operation (the Negev conquest operation), from 23.12.1948; an additional Order of the Day for the Chorev Operation, written especially for the soldiers of the 7th battalion of the Palmach; seven leaves of "Yoman Krav" (Combat Log) of the Chorev Operation, issued by the combat headquarters of the 12th Brigade; "HaGemul" (Retaliation), a leaf with a poem about the decision to disassemble the Palmach, signed "Chefer" (Chaim Chefer?); and more.
Enclosed: "For the Defense of the Palmach" (Hebrew), a broadside issued by the "United Workers Party" calling not to disassemble the Palmach.
