Varied collection of 24 medals, plaques and pendants, which were issued in memory of various figures and events. Europe and Palestine, the 18th-20th centuries.
1. Medal minted to commemorate the "Edict of Tolerance" issued by Emperor Franz Joseph II, which granted rights to the Jews in Austria. With the Emperor's portrait and the legend: "Tolerantia Imperantis" (Latin: Tolerance Rules). Austria, 1782. Signed – Reich (Johann Christian Reich).
2. A medal minted to commemorate Admiral Sydney Smith's success in fighting off Napoleon's army in Acre during the battle of 1799. [England, ca. 1820]. With Smith's portrait and signatures of the artists: James Mudie, George Mills and Nicolas Guy Antoine Brenet.
3-5. Three medals with portraits of European dignitaries, 18th and 19th centuries: * Medal with the Tetragrammaton and the portrait of the British mathematician and philosopher Samuel Clarke. * Medal with the portrait of a Belgian attorney, judge and Congress Member. * Medal with the portrait of Prof. Johann Nepomuk von Nussbaum.
6-10. Five medals with Jewish themes. [Europe, 18th – 20th centuries]: * Two silver medals with the portrait of Moses and a relief of the Tablets of the Law. One of them with the Tetragrammaton, the other is signed: Loos (Gottfried Bernhard Loos). * Medal with a relief of the Ten Commandments, signed L.F. * Medal with a portrait of King Solomon. * Silver medal with a relief of a star-of-David and the emblem of the United Kingdom (England, early 20th century).
11-12. Two bronze plaques with a relief of the two spies carrying a cluster of grapes on a pole, after a sketch by Ze'ev Raban. [Israel, the second half of the 20th century].
12-24. 12 plaques, medals and other items commemorating Theodor Herzl (Israel; one item from the USA, ca. 1940s-1960s): * Two plaques with Herzl's portrait, one of them made by "Pal-Bell". * Medals and plaques designed by Shmuel Krechmer. * Medal - one hundred years since Herzl's birth, with the symbols of the Twelve Tribes of Israel. * Two medals - liberation of Jerusalem, with a relief of a soldier standing by the Western Wall and the legend: "Liberation of Jerusalem 7.9.1967". * Pin with Herzl's portrait issued by the Zionist Organization of America. * And more.
