Late 3rd-early 2nd millennium BC
A mixed group of bronze seals including three accompanied by typed and signed notes by the late W.G. Lambert, Professor of Assyriology at the University of Birmingham, 1970-1993, which state: (R-479) 'Stamp Seal of Bronze, 39 x 24 x 12mm. This has the shape of piglet standing. it has a flat compartmented face, and a slightly convex back on which is mounted a short loop handle. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2300-2000 B.C. It is covered with incrustation, which could be removed. The metal appears to be in good condition, and this is a fascinating piece.'; (V-850) 'Stamp Seal of Bronze, 25 x 21.5 x 1mm. This bears the shape of the design, with flat compartmented face and flat back of which is mounted a loop handle of metal rod. The design shows a heraldic eagle with two heads: heads at the top sideways, wings handing beneath, and tail feathers spread at the bottom. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2300-2000 B.C. It is a rare type (the double-headed eagle) and in very good condition save for a nick at the bottom.'; (T-744) 'Stamp Seal of Bronze, 35 x 19 x 24mm. This has an irregular shape -- perhaps based on the human foot -- with flat face and flat back, on which is mounted a tall stalk handle ending in a round loop. The design on the face is done in raised lines: two arches with stroke within them at one end, and incomplete circles at the other end with linear items at the point. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2200-1800 B.C. It is covered with incrustation, which could be removed, but the metal and piece generally is in good condition.'; one discoid with figure-like shape and handle; and one in the form of a horned quadruped with compartmented body; 78 grams total, 25-43mm (1-1 3/4"). Fine condition. [5]
