A haematite(?) cylinder seal with two bearded worshippers in fringed, open robes are face to face, the right one raising his left hand; between the both a triangular-headed spade, the symbol of Marduk, the patronal god of the city of Babylon; this symbol, called marru, may possibly reflect an origin of the god as a local agricultural deity; in addition, two jumping up caprides, antithetically positioned, with heads turned backwards; the hind leg of the one crosses the other's; above it a star as symbol of the goddess Ištar. 1.33 grams, 15mm (1/2"). Fine condition.
