2nd century BC-1st century AD
A rectangular limestone stele with chamfered edges, carved male face of a dignitary and three-character inscription below; the face stylised, with beard extending to the exterior from the temples under the chin, small ovoid ears with scroll detailing, slit mouth and sharp nose with brow-ridge, incised lentoid eyes; some pigment remaining. 3.3 kg, 27.5cm (10 3/4"). Fine condition.
Provenance
Property of a London gentleman; previously with a central London gallery; formerly in a collection formed in the 1990s.
