2nd century BC-1st century AD
A rectangular limestone stele with carved male face of a dignitary and three-character inscription below; the face stylised with beard extending to the exterior from the temples under the chin, small D-shaped ears with scroll detailing, slit mouth and sharp nose with brow-ridge; sockets for inserted scaphoid eyes; some pigment remaining; mounted on a custom-made stand. 8.3 kg, 34.5cm including stand (13 3/4"). Fine condition.

Property of a London gentleman; previously with a central London gallery; formerly in a collection formed in the 1990s.
