Romemut K-l. Psalms with Commentary by Rabbi Moshe Alshich. Venice, Juan Di Gara, [1605]. First Edition

Rabbi Moshe Alshich was a prominent Safed sage in the city's golden era. He was known as "The Holy Alshich." The author passed away a few years before the book was printed, and it was published by his son Rabbi Chaim Alshich. The son writes in the introduction that a manuscript that had not been proofread by the author had been stolen from his home, with a section of the commentary on Psalms, and it had been printed without permission. [He was referring to Tapuchei Zahav which was printed in Bikurei Gishmi in 1597, which only features a commentary on the first book of Psalms].

Antique book of Psalms with the first edition of a first-rate commentary.

310 leaves, 19.5 cm. Haberman-Yudlov, HaMadpis Juan di Gara, 238. Fine condition. Aging stains. Light professional restoration to the blank margins of the title page. New leather binding.
